It also was different from the other arts in that it furthered the ideology of industrialization & progress. In most other fields, Modernism fought or lamented these trends. Modernism was the first great ideological response to this social crisis and the breakdown of a shared religion. Modern Architecture had failed to communicate with its users. Partly because it didn't make effective links with the city and history. Cheap prefabrication, lack of personal 'defensible' space, and the alienating housing estate. Explosions became a frequent method of dealing with the failure of Modernist building methods:
