In 1847 Dostoyevsky joined the liberal Petrashevsky Circle, named after the host at whose house they met every Friday evening to discuss literature, and social problems. They debated Western social theorists like Proudhon and Fourier, seeking to apply their theories to Russia.
The commission then condemned the circle to 4 years laboring in chains in Siberia.
Later in life, he was turned into a celebrity and was buried publicly.
